Most seaside-goers long for sun, sea, and sand on their holidays, but not travellers to the northern French town of Berck-sur-Mer! For a little over a week each year, visitors hope for high winds as teams from across the globe flock to the sandy beaches to celebrate the 28th International Kite Festival, and to take part in the World Sport Kite Championships.
As well as being ideally situated just a 40-minute drive from Calais, Berck-sur-Mer has perfect coastal winds for the competition, which is in its 9th year and will take place between 15th-17th April. This might just be an ideal opportunity to take that mid-week short break you've been looking for!
Fourteen teams, including Air-Rex from Japan, Russia's Red Alert and Cream Team from France will be battling for the top spot on the podium. All eyes will be on the sky to see if the UK's Scratch Bunnies can win the title for the third time or if newcomers Win-Sky Shanghai from China can steal first prize!
Whoever wins, with so many kites in the sky at once, flying in a rainbow of colours, the championships are sure to be a great opportunity for budding photographers – it's not to be missed!
