Can you believe it?
The Channel Tunnel has been awarded the ‘Global Engineering of the Century Award’ by The International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC).
The opening of the Channel Tunnel in 1994, marked the completion of one of the biggest engineering projects ever undertaken.
Beating the likes of the Tokaido Shinkansen - the first Japanese high speed line, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Hoover Dam Bypass, it’s an honour to be recognised as the most important large-scale civil engineering project in the last 100 years.
We would like to say a huge thank-you to FIDIC, as this award is testimony to all of the hard work and dedication that went into the creation of the tunnel.
