EuroSpeedway Lausitz
The EuroSpeedway Lausitz is a popular racetrack in east Germany, which is known for playing host to the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) and Superbike World Championship every year. On Saturday 3rd September, doors will open at around 10:00, with the free practices and qualifying classes running throughout the day. If you’re keen to see all of the action, doors are due to open at the same time on Sunday 4th September, and you can enjoy the fantastic pilot parade at 12:30, before the races begin. The racetrack seats 120,000 people, so it’s a really fantastic atmosphere.
The Races
Pilots will attempt to navigate through an exhilarating aerial racetrack, which is laid out using inflatable pylons. They’ll need to get the fastest time possible, with as few penalties as possible. Completing each Master Class race earn pilots World Championship points, with the winner being announced after the final race in Las Vegas, in October.
Anyone checking out the Germany race will also see the Challenger Cup, which involves a younger collection of eight incredible pilots from across the globe. These pilots are really lucky as they have the chance to experience the adrenaline rush of the Red Bull Air Race, and I love watching on as a new generation hone their skills, by racing in one of the world’s most exciting and thrilling motorsports.
Where to stay
There are several places to stay near to the racetrack, giving you the freedom to experience the entire day’s events without worrying too much about travel. For something special, check out the Wellnesshotel Seeschlösschen resort, near to the scenic Lake Senftenberg. With a wellness spa, a pretty garden and a number of restaurants offering rustic meals and more formal dining, you can unwind with ease after an exciting day at the races.
Not too far away, the quaint hotel Pension Mandy in Seftenberg is a great choice if you’re looking for a simple, nicely-decorated hotel with a buffet breakfast. Rooms are spacious and the staff are welcoming, and the hotel is just over a 10-minute drive from the EuroSpeedway Lausitz.

Lusatian Lakeland
Just south of the racetrack you can find the incredible Lusatian Lakeland, a nature reserve packed with things to see and do. Whether you’re renting a boat on Lake Seftenberg, cycling through the nature reserve or trying your hand at the sailing school, it’s a brilliant place for kids and adults, and during early September the weather is still warm enough to go camping.
Dresden
Just over an hour’s drive south of the racetrack is Dresden. One of Germany’s most elegant and beautiful cities, its history is a tumultuous but interesting story which can be explored through its many museums and regal architecture. One of the most impressive buildings for me is the Dresden Zwinger, which is one of Germany’s most famous baroque buildings, home to museums and theatre spaces.
