Europe’s Pet-centric Events

A summary of the best pet-centric events happening around Europe this spring.

Ghent is home to Flanders Dog Show

At Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, we love pets. That’s why we’re bringing you a summary of some of the best pet-centric events happening this spring. If you’re travelling to France or planning a longer trip to Europe, planning a pet event into your itinerary is a great way to involve your furry friend in on your travels.

Flanders Dog Show - Ghent, Belgium

Held in the popular Flanders Expo exhibition centre in Ghent is the annual Flanders Dog Show. Ghent is a delightful place to visit if you’re travelling with a pet. It’s a city, but maintains the closeness of a quaint town. It’s a thriving destination, with friendly locals, superb museums and beautiful canal-side architecture to enjoy while walking your pet.

Taking place each February, the Flanders Dog Show sees a coming together of pet-centric locals and travellers, who come to either admit their dog in the events, or spectate and enjoy seeing thousands of furry friends from varying breeds. The dog show is in its 46th year, so whether you love greyhounds, pinschers, sheepdogs or terriers, head to Ghent for a truly pet-centric event!

PROPET - Madrid, Spain

Taking place this March in Spain’s capital, Madrid, PROPET is the country’s largest forum for pet professionals and enthusiasts. Last year saw over 100 exhibitors, showing a range of pet-friendly products from fashion and style accessories to grooming, toys and training equipment. If you’re interested in dog grooming or are a professional in the pet sector, there are loads of events to enjoy including talks, seminars and master classes given by experts in the field. It’s also a great place to learn about professional dog training, and the different training methods for varying breeds.

A city full of creativity and culture, Madrid is definitely worth visiting. If you’re looking for a place to eat in between PROPET talks, take some time to explore the city’s culinary delights, which draw from all corners of Spanish culture from Catalan to Basque.

International Dog Show - Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

To the east of France lies Luxembourg, a charming country that can often be overlooked by travellers who visit the larger countries surrounding it. With a stunning rural countryside and thriving capital city, Luxembourg is one of our favourite destinations. The capital has an UNESCO-recognised centre, which serves as a wonderful walking spot for you and your pooch.

When in Luxembourg, a visit to the International Dog Show is a must. It’s a huge exhibition, which sees professional judges adjudicate a range of breed competitions, rating best of breed for each category. It’s a great event to visit if you’re looking to participate in dog shows in the future, as you’ll get to see how the judges examine each breed.

About the Author

I love travelling. France, Europe, the World! I’ve been to many countries around the World, but keep being drawn back to France. Just a quick trip under the Channel from our home in Folkestone, my family and I could easily spend every holiday there, from skiing, self catering gites and the odd daytrip or weekend break. I hope to share some of my stories and favourite places with our Eurotunnel Le Shuttle customers.
