There are plenty to enjoy, taking place throughout November and December, so you can plan on visiting one or more during your trip. It’s possible to enter your dog into competitions, so if you’ve got a particularly handsome pooch, why not give it a go!
Shetland Sheepdog Speciality, Belgium
Held in Deinze, just southwest of Ghent, the Shetland Sheepdog Speciality will take place on 11th November, 2016. Organised by the Belgian Shetland Sheepdog Club (BSSC), the event helps to raise awareness around the health and character of the Shetland Sheepdog breed, and both members and non-members of the club are welcome to take part in local walks and talks.
The club also publishes a magazine, so if you’re a keen Shetland Sheepdog fan, you’re in good company.

International Dog Show Marseille, France
Taking place between 26th and 27th November, this year Marseille will play host to its famed International Dog Show. Featuring hundreds of breeds of dogs, the Marseille Dog Show uses specialist judges to rate each dog based on European standards, around defined criteria.
Each dog is rated against the highest standards of their breed, and given a value between ‘Excellent’ (highest) to ‘Poor’ (lowest). You’ll also get to see puppies, which are rated between ‘Very Promising’ and ‘Pretty Promising’. Dogs must be well trained so that they can walk properly on a leash, be examined by a judge (and show their teeth) and not try to play or fight with other dogs. It’s a great event with all kinds of breeds, from Boston Terrier to German Spitz.

International Dog Show Lille, France
From 10th to 11th December 2016, Lille will host its International Dog Show. It’s possible to enter your pooch online, and you have between 1st and 22nd of November to do so. The pretty city of Lille is a fantastic place to take your pooch, with plenty of wide-open spaces to go on walks, such as the central town square.
With specialist judges at the event and a number of talks, it’s a great place for dog enthusiasts. Dogs under 15 months can’t be entered into the regular competition categories, but they do have ‘Puppy’ and ‘Baby’ categories that they are able to enter.
