International Fair – L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
Towards the south of France, the Sorgue River winds between the Alpes and the River Rhône. This picturesque valley is home to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, a stunning fishing town home to canals, arts and craft shops, and beautiful baroque and 18th century architecture. Over the years, the town has become famous for its thriving antiques trade, and today it hosts the revered International Fair. Held twice annually, over 300 antiques merchants come to the Isle to sell paintings, furniture, fabrics, books, metalwork and jewellery. The fair is usually divided into different ‘villages’, with some selling contemporary art, while others deal in design and décor.
The International Fair will take place between 25th and 28th March, 2016.
International Cheese and Wine Fair – Coulommiers
Famous for its cheese, Coulommiers is a delightful town east of Paris, just 45 kilometres away. Home to charming medieval architecture, Coulommiers hosts the International Cheese and Wine Fair every year, on Palm Saturday and Sunday. A must for any foodie, the cheese and wine fair has been taking place in Coulommiers since 1967, and is a haven of local cheeses and produce. You simply must try the town’s cheese, which is very similar to brie with its rich and creamy texture. Hundreds of exhibitors take part in the fair, as well as exhibiting local livestock. Don’t forget to check out the local brie contest, as well as the famous competition to guess how much the local cow, Marguerite, weighs!
The International Cheese and Wine Fair takes place between 18th and 21st March, 2016.
Europa Jazz Festival – Le Mans
Each year since 1980, the Europa Jazz Festival has hosted a month-long calendar of musical events, drawing the crowds to the scenic city of Le Mans, in central-northern France, although official events for the festival can happen as far away as Nantes and La Roche-sur-Yon. A respected musical event, the Europa Jazz Festival draws experienced jazz musicians from across Europe for three weeks of delightful musical performances. Last year, the final day of the festival saw a picnic-style celebration at the Abbaye de l'Epau in Le Mans, with brass bands on the lawn. Bring some food, relax and enjoy your favourite jazz musicians as they entertain the crowds.
Takes place in early April through to early May, 2016. Check website for details closer to the date.
