Travelling with different vehicles

Travelling with different vehicles

However you want to travel, we've got you covered. Find out what it's like to travel with LeShuttle, your way.

Vehicle types

Cars (including electric cars)
For the quintessential road trip, exploring by car is a great way to travel. At LeShuttle, formerly known as Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, there's no extra cost for luggage, so load up with the kids, the dog, golf clubs and skis and head off on your next adventure.

We welcome cars of all sizes. LeShuttle ticket prices and availability are based on the space your car takes up on the shuttle, and whether your car can travel on our single or double-deck carriages. One ticket on LeShuttle covers the price of your car and includes up to 9 passengers. When you book, we'll ask for your car registration, or make and model, to ensure we can allocate you to a suitable carriage.

If you have a larger car, low-ground clearance, gull/scissor wings or you have added accessories such as a roof rack, trailer or bicycles, you'll be shown fares for our single-deck carriages when you book.

If you're travelling with an electric or hybrid car, you'll find chargers for universal electric and hybrid cars, as well as dedicated Tesla chargers, at your departure terminal, so you can recharge before you head through the tunnel. If you would like to use the Type 2 plug, you must bring and use your own charging cable.

Motorcycles
LeShuttle, formerly known as Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, is a great choice for motorcyclists, as the fastest direct route between the open roads of the UK and the Continent. Motorcycles travel at half the price of a car, so it's a great way to save, and the ticket price covers your motorcycle, rider, pillion and panniers. Cross the channel in just 35 minutes with LeShuttle!
High vehicles, vans and minibuses
The spacious, single deck carriages on LeShuttle, formerly known as Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, can accommodate vehicles higher than 1.85 metres, including tall cars, vehicles carrying items on their roof, coaches, caravans, minibuses and vans. The carriages are twice as high as the double deck carriages so there's more than enough room.

LeShuttle ticket fares and availability are based on the space your vehicle takes up on the shuttle. You'll be shown fares for our single-deck carriages when you book. The maximum size we can accommodate for your vehicle including any trailers or caravans is 18m (59ft).

If you are travelling with a van that weighs up to 3.5 tonnes and carrying commercial goods, you'll be able to travel on our passenger service but you will need to book via our dedicated Freight service.

Caravans, campervans and trailers
We can accommodate motorhomes, caravans, campervans and trailers on LeShuttle's single deck carriages. The entrances to these carriages are wider, making it easy to manoeuvre your vehicle on board.

For those vehicles that have LPG tanks for cooking, refrigeration, heating and other domestic uses, we request that the appliance is switched off before boarding and during the entire crossing. We can carry tanks up to 47kg, but they must be less than 80% full. For your own safety, and the safety of others, you will need to demonstrate this before you travel.

Our ticket fares and availability are based on the space your vehicle takes up on the shuttle. The price of your ticket includes your vehicle and up to 9 passengers. You'll be shown fares for our single-deck carriages when you book. The maximum size we can accommodate for your vehicle including any trailers or caravans is 18m (59ft).

Coaches
If you're a coach operator or interested in booking space for your coach with LeShuttle please call us for more information or email coachsales@leshuttle.com. Or, you can visit our Trade section and find out more about our fares.
Bicycles
Taking your bike on LeShuttle is simple, with fares starting at just £50 per bicycle, each way. Our cycle service operates between the Holiday Inn Express in Folkestone and the CIFFCO building opposite Cite Europe in Calais, carrying cycles and cyclists on a specially adapted, spacious minibus. You'll be collected and taken to the terminal and onto the shuttle for the 35 minute journey.

To make a reservation, you'll need to complete a request form. Once that's done a member of our Customer Support Team will be in touch so you can book. You'll need to book a minimum of 10 working days in advance, and tickets are non-refundable. You can amend your booking up to 3 working days before your departure, subject to availability.

Unfortunately, we are unable to take bookings over the telephone or on the day of travel.

Adapted vehicles
If your vehicle is larger or has been adapted to accomodate accessibility needs, make sure you get the best price by letting us know about the adaptations in advance of your trip.

Registering your car as an adapted vehicle is simple, and helps us make sure we can make your journey as smooth as possible. We'll ask you to provide evidence of the requirements or modifications when you register.

Once registered, you'll be able to book online from your account, or call +44 (0) 3443 35 35 35.

Vehicle FAQs

Can I change my vehicle details on arrival?

Yes - subject to availability and difference in price. We recommend you make any changes in advance online, via our Contact Centre by phone, or by Live Chat prior to travel as space on the day may be very limited.

Vehicle types and sizes

To correctly allocate you a space on our shuttles we need to know the dimensions of the vehicle you are travelling with.

This can be easily done using one of three methods;

1. Vehicle registration

If your vehicle is registered in the UK or France, you can simply enter your vehicle registration and search for your vehicle.

2. Make and Model

If we are unable to find your details from your registration number, your vehicle is registered outside of the UK/France, or you do not know it, you can search for the make and model of your vehicle yourself.

Please note: This option isn't available for motorcycle users. If you are travelling with a motorcycle, use the vehicle registration search, or the "type and size" option.

3. Type/Size

If you are unable to find your specific vehicle using the above methods, you can still make a booking by telling us the type of vehicle, as well as its approximate length and height.

Whichever method you use, we will still request a registration number during the booking process so that we can detect your arrival at check-in for fast and smooth processing.

Maximum size: the maximum size of combined vehicle and trailer/caravan we can transport is 18 meters (59ft).

Booking with a modified vehicle (restricted mobility customers)

If your vehicle is larger and specially modified to accommodate your needs, you will need to be able to provide evidence of the requirements or modifications in order to register its status as an adapted vehicle to ensure the best price. Contact us to register your vehicle.

Once registered you will be able to book using your LeShuttle account, or by calling +44 (0) 3443 35 35 35

Additional information

Van/minibus

Some vehicle models can be classified as either a van or a minibus, so we will need to confirm exactly which type of vehicle you are booking, and in the case of a van that you are not carrying any commercial goods (if you are, you will need to book with our Freight service).

Campervans

If we detect that your vehicle is a campervan or has been converted into a campervan we will ask you to confirm this so that the appropriate checks can be carried out by our safety teams at the terminal.

We will also need to know the overall size of your campervan, including anything (including vehicles) mounted on the rear, as shown below:

Low ground clearance and wide sports cars

We may detect that your vehicle (despite being under the 1.85 meters high) is better suited to our Single Deck shuttles due to its low ground-clearance, width, or scissor/gull-wing doors.

Our Single Deck shuttles can accommodate wider vehicles, and do not require driving up the ramps to the upper deck during loading. If your vehicle is not detected as being wide/low but you wish to request this type of allocation, please book via our Contact Centre.

Will I pay more if I'm towing a trailer or caravan?

Yes - you will have to pay for the extra space a trailer or caravan takes up on the shuttle. You will also be allocated to the single storey section to make sure you can load and unload from our shuttle with ease.

Please make sure you measure anything you are towing carefully (we need the total length of your trailer/caravan including any storage boxes, bicycles or sports equipment mounted to the rear) to ensure we allocate the right amount of space. More information.

Will my Car / Van / Campervan / Motorhome be too big?

The maximum dimensions we are able to carry in our passenger carriages are as follows:

  • Length: 18m (The maximum length for a car and caravan or trailer including bumpers, tow bars and any over hanging load.)
  • Height: 4.2m
  • Width: 2.55m (plus mirrors)
  • Light commercial goods maximum weight: 3.5 tonnes (however the Passenger Shuttle will allow exceptional vehicles such as campervans and coaches up to 25 tonnes maximum gross weight on a wagon)
Am I able to book and pay for more than one car?

For groups of 20 or more vehicles travelling together, please submit your request via our group travel form to obtain your quote.
