National Microchipping Month

June is National Microchipping Month, an annual initiative that promotes the importance of chipping as a permanent identification for your pet. It’s also essential if you plan to take your pet abroad on holiday with you.

I’m sure you will have already seen the campaign in your local vets and animal magazines promoting this years 10th Annual National Microchipping Month which takes place in June.

As a nation of dog lovers, we struggle to leave home for our holidays without our pets, but microchipped cats, dogs and ferrets are able to travel to the continent with Eurotunnel Le Shuttle under the Pet Passport Scheme.

Sponsored by the Kennel Club, this initiative promotes the importance of chipping as a permanent identification for your pet.

There are so many benefits of microchipping dogs, and you can now also have cats, rabbits and other animals chipped. Last year, even a flock of penguins at London Zoo were chipped in a move to raise awareness of the event!

I spoke to Caroline Kisko, Secretary at the Kennel Club who said: “So many people are still unaware of how simple, effective and necessary it is to microchip their pet. It’s not until a pet goes missing that they really become aware of the value of the service.”

Microchips are tiny, about the size of a grain of rice, and once it is implanted, they do not even notice it’s there.

So, if you have a dog, cat, rabbit (or even a penguin!) be sure to pop down to your local vets this month and ask about microchipping.

About the Author

I love travelling. France, Europe, the World! I’ve been to many countries around the World, but keep being drawn back to France. Just a quick trip under the Channel from our home in Folkestone, my family and I could easily spend every holiday there, from skiing, self catering gites and the odd daytrip or weekend break. I hope to share some of my stories and favourite places with our Eurotunnel Le Shuttle customers.
