Travel from the UK to France - Legal requirements

1. UK Travel declaration form

From 8 March 2021, you must complete this form to declare the reason that you need to travel abroad. Entering a port of departure to travel internationally without a completed form or attempting to travel abroad without a legally permitted reason, is a criminal offence, for which you could be fined.

2. French Health declaration

There are separate health declarations ("Déclaration pour voyageur") for people under and over age 11 - one must be completed for each passenger

3. Pre-travel COVID-19 testing

All customers aged 11 and over travelling on our passenger service require a negative PCR test result. Please click here for more information on testing for both directions of travel.

Please aware: There is currently an overnight curfew in France
Travel at other times is restricted except for specific reasons. If you will be driving between 7pm and 6am you'll need to download and fill out a Travel Exemption Certificate stating your reason to travel. More information can be found here (Curfew Travel Exemption Certificate in English here)

If you will be travelling through France to another country you will still need all of the above. Please also check the requirements of the country you plan to enter next.

Travel from France to the UK – Legal Requirements

1. Passenger locator form

To protect your health and others', everyone must complete an online passenger locator form before arrival in the United Kingdom. The Passenger Locator Form must include the test reference numbers from your pre-travel testing package (point 4).

2. Pre-travel testing

All customers aged 11 and over travelling on our passenger service require a negative Covid test result. Please click here for more information on testing for both directions of travel.

3. BEFORE you travel you must purchase/book a travel testing package for £210

You must take a coronavirus (COVID-19) test on day 2 and day 8 of quarantining. The test package must be booked before you start your journey, and test reference numbers included on your Passenger Locator Form (point 2) prior to travel. All arrivals must quarantine for 10 days unless exempt. Full details and requirements can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-england

Failure to comply with the above measures is a criminal offence and you could be fined and/or denied travel. Please visit www.gov.uk/uk-border-control for detailed public health advice and requirements for entering the UK.

Terminal Buildings and Shuttles

Our terminals are open during the day, but many facilities are unavailable due to Government guidelines. Toilets and vending machines are also available in the boarding lanes at both our Folkestone and Calais terminals. Please be aware that customers must remain in their vehicles on the shuttle so toilets on board are closed.

Download & install the NHS COVID-19 app
We encourage customers to download and install the NHS COVID-19 app to help fight the spread of the virus and save lives. Don't forget to "check-in" to our terminal buildings using the QR codes located on our entrances, if you enter the terminal. 

Eurotunnel travel insurance

Our Covid-19 Travel insurance and Combined products now include cover for cancellation prior to travel. However, it is IMPORTANT to note that there is no travel insurance cover (including for curtailment, quarantine and medical expenses) whilst overseas, if the FCDO advises against all but essential travel in the country you are travelling to. Most ticket types have a full year from date of original purchase to be used, as long as amended before the day of your booked travel and there are no admin fees for changing dates. Our Flexiplus tickets are fully refundable.Travel to be completed within 1 calendar year of the date of original purchase.

The Visit England “We’re Good To Go” Industry Standard

This UK-wide industry standard and supporting mark demonstrates that Eurotunnel fully adheres to the respective government and public health guidance, has carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment and checked all required processes have been implemented.

AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation) Certification

AFNOR has awarded Eurotunnel with the highest score of 100% for COVID-19 compliant practices. The certification, which was given following a two-day audit, recognises the efficacy of all the measures we’ve put in place to ensure the safety and protection of customers and staff.
